So..... wow this is my first blog. I'm not sure how great it will be, but I feel that it may be helpful to others as many blogs have been to me. My first meeting for the girl scouts was October 2, 2014. We started working on The Brownie Quest and My Best Self badge. Things went pretty well for me and the girls... we are hoping that more girls will join our troop soon but working with four is making this first time journey mom a little less overwhelmed!
So we came into the troop late, all the girls worked on the other two Brownie journey's last year, but then half the troop bridged to juniors and they needed a Brownie journey leader... so that's me.
I have never done this before.... yikes! But with the help of the other troop leaders and pinterest :) I have found plenty to keep our girls entertained while discovering their keys and completing this journey.
We are breaking up the meetings to expand on the journey as we travel along it.... our first meeting we worked on discovering our special talents and qualities.
First we talked about beginning the Brownie Quest Journey and each girl accepted the quest by writing their name on a pink star to put on our troop map. I found a poster board with different colors on each side so on the opposite side our our troop map we created the Brownie Quest Superstars Board... on this board the girls wrote down two of their special talents and qualities on yellow stars and we will bring this poster with us to each of our meeting to remind us of how terrific we are and our quest will be.
Our next activity was an I am special I spy bottle. The girls choose four colored beads that best represented them and then four items they were good at... pictures to come later. When they completed their bottle they shared their special qualities and talents with each other and searched using the legends to see what their Brownie sisters special qualities and talents were.
The girl seemed to have had a blast.... at least my daughter told me she enjoyed it! Then on to Brownie Homework.... Each girl was given a folder that they will bring home and work on with mom and dad. Since we are completing the Brownie Quest journey what better way to enhance and continue the lesson learned in this first meeting than by beginning the My Best Self Badge. The girls were asked to complete the My Elf Self in step 1 Get to Know Your Body. We will share at our next journey meeting October 16, 2014.
